Breast pumpAfter you pump the milk it is wise to store it. I used Avent Breast milk containers. They are easy to use with the breast pump, they can be machine washed, boiled in water, or steamed in microwave. You can also deep-freeze them, and the milk can be stored that way for a year. If you keep the milk at 4C, it has to be used in 74 hours.

Mother’s milk separates into fat and waterIt is a good thing to write down the date on the container after you pumped the milk.
It is natural for milk to separate into different layers in the container after it rested in the fridge for a while. Fat accumulates on the top, and water with proteins is bellow. The milk is not spoiled, and will seem normal after you shake the container.
When you take the milk from the freezer, put the container into the cold water to slowly defrost. It is not advisable to leave the container for too long outside the refrigerator, especially in the direct sunlight. Bacteria multiply very fast in warm conditions.
