How to know when my baby is really breastfeeding and when only sucking?

The best and simplest way you can see that your baby is really breastfeeding is to watch for swallowing sound and motion. If there is only motion of babies mouth and cheeks baby is only sucking.

Lying in its mother’s arms, with her breast against its cheek, baby feels safe, warm, loved and comforted. It is almost impossible to separate it from your breast.
After your baby has stopped feeding, let it suck onto your nipple for a while, just for comfort, and for her well being, it should last up to 10 minutes and then burp it, or if it is sleeping, put it to bed.
